‘the Iranian flag’ that has been subjected to diverse changes throughout history. The present national flag of Iran (proportions 3 by 1) comprises three equal horizontal stripes, of green, white and red, with the emblem of Islamic Republic centrally positioned in red and the inscription الله اكبر (God is Great) repeated 22 times at the top and bottom (the figure 22 is commemorative of the 22nd day of the solar hegira month of Bahman, 1357 (February 11, 1979) which marks the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, ie February 11, 1979.
